From the mid 1960's to early 1970's we lived on a farm alongside highway 142 in Caldwell County. We moved because my father developed an ulcer and could not work as a farm laborer for the landowner. My mother started working for the lady of the house, Ms. Mattie Bell. As my father recuperated he began working for the new landowner. The owner was a retired insurance salesman. He and his wife held a large lawn party for Easter on the grounds of their antebellum style home. Their family and friends brought their families to enjoy an Easter Egg hunt, plenty of treats, and a chance to ride in a buggy pulled by their Shetland Ponies .
