When I was four my family moved to another farm across the highway. My father had developed an ulcer that required time to heal. Since he could not work, we were asked to leave the property. The landowner's response was that laborers would no longer be needed to farm due to the advance in machinery and technology. A year after settling into our new home, my father was offered a job washing towels for the Athletic Department of Lockhart I. S. D. As a teenager, my older brother had been a significant player in the local Babe Ruth baseball league. He was a strong pitcher. When our family was in need, two former coaches that became a principal and Assistant Superintendent remembered my father because of those contributions made by my oldest brother to their championship teams.
