Grace Adell Crockett (American, 1922-2007)

Grace A. Crockett was born August 09, 1922, in Denton, Texas to Chelcie and Roxie (Coleman) Crockett. She graduated from Southern Methodist University with a bachelor’s degree in Art, and worked for many years in the Dallas area as a Commercial Artist where she specialized in the design of Holiday wrapping paper for several major department stores. She had a successful career as a commercial designer, first for Neiman Marcus (1946-54), and later independently (1954-1978). In addition to her commercial work, Grace was known as a painter, printmaker, watercolorist, muralist, craftsperson. Throughout her career, she was a member of the following organizations: Printmakers Guild / Texas Printmakers; Southern States Art League; Texas Artists Group; Texas Fine Arts Association; Dallas Society for Contemporary Arts; Advertising Artists Association of Dallas She also taught night classes at Dallas College in 1948. Crockett died Sunday, September 30, 2007, at the age of 85. Her work can be found in the collection of the Blanton Museum of Art, Austin, Texas, and the Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas, Texas.
