Sunday Afternoon, 2018
acrylic on canvas

After church on Sundays we often stopped at my maternal grandparents' small farm in Maxwell. TX. We and our cousins would play in the afternoons after a hearty meal. My grandmother and aunts did everything to entertain us in the afternoons. Birthdays were always special celebrations. Pimento cheese sandwiches were usually accompanied by a large bowl of Hawaiian Punch. On occasion they would acquire a block of ice to make Snow Cones. They used a "raspador" to scrape the fine ice into cups and flavored it with a variety of sweeteners and flavors.
