My father left Mexico with his parents, a sister and brother during the Mexican Revolution at the age of four. This was during the civil war stage of the revolution. Military leaders and the wealthy elites vied for control and civilians were generally caught in the middle. They left after an incident where the Mexican Army blamed them for an explosion on a nearby train track. The army took over their part of the hacienda taking goods and livestock for their own use. Many of the people came down from the mountains to escape the chaos. My father, his parents and two siblings made it to Leon, Guanajuato and caught a train headed north to Texas along with many others to escape the violence.
