Walk Together Children: The Poetry of Harvey Johnson with Tribute to John Biggers

Walk Together Children: The Poetry of Harvey Johnson with Tribute to John Biggers

The last twenty-five years have seen a resurgence of interest in early Texas art and artists. This renaissance in early Texas art has been nurtured by advances in scholarship, growth in public exhibition and collection-building in the field. William Reaves Fine Art is proud to play a small role in this rediscovery and reexamination of historically significant art in our state. We believe that our gallery’s work in documenting Texas art from the middle decades of the twentieth century is particularly important, as the post-war period is gaining renewed appreciation as a time of dynamic growth and creative divergence in the visual arts in Texas. Texas artists working from the late-40s through the 70s are just now beginning to receive their due, and their myriad contributions to regional and national art only now being recognized. This belated recognition seems particularly true for African-American artists who were at work in mid-century Texas.
